Shedding Light on Squidsoup – A Conversation with Anthony Rowe

For more than a decade, the artist collective Squidsoup have been designing rich interactive experiences. From their early navigable sonic environments, through their playful experiments with computer vision and interest in ‘volumetric visualizations’, an email exchange between Squidsoup’s Anthony Rowe and CAN begat a mammoth interview abound light, sound and many of the collective’s projects.

G80 – (un)Equitable variables

G80 is an interactive installation which proposes a contemporary interpretation of Buckminster Fuller’s “World Game”. Visitors interact with a matrix of sliders, each corresponding to a variable of one of 80 human conditions selected by the artist. When a single slider is moved, other sliders correlate with each other and forming changing patterns without their intervention, suggesting interference/effect to/on other variables.

The Conspiracy Capitaliser – AI, Social Media, and Profit in the Age of Misinformation

Comprised of a device, as a non-human participant, it allows the user to explore a wide spectrum of untruths which can be produced by AI systems and to experience, first-hand, the ethical dilemmas ahead of us as a technologically entangled society.

Four Transitions – The (unstoppable) passing of time on the half a century of technological advancement

Created by Jürg Lehni for the collection of HeK – House of electronic Arts in Basel, ‘Four Transitions’ is an artwork about the passing of time. Together, four displays work in tandem to unveil the current time, with each unit taking one minute to compose one numeral, deploying visual compositions and choreographies that correspond to the nature and character of each technology.
