Satelliten – A machine tracking activities in lower earth orbit

Created by Berlin based studio Quadrature, Satelliten is a custom-built machine that brings the invisible movement of passing satellites in lower orbit to a tangible medium and scale.

For a long time, maps and atlases used to be one of the only sources for geographical knowledge. Now the paths of the satellites start to form on top of the familiar neighbourhoods, thus setting the normally invisible traffic in relation to our usual habitat. But as time passes the lines of the satellites will obliterate the well-known streets and cities, overwriting not only the information the map originally contained but as well the marks left by the preceding satellites.

Ninety Six – Inflatable pixels by Nils Völker

Ninety Six is a site specific installation comprised of 96 plastic bags that are selectively inflated and deflated in controlled rhythms, creating wavelike animations across the wall of the gallery.

Vanitas Machine – The transience and extension of life

Created by Verena Friedrich, Vanitas Machine explores the desire for eternal life and the potential of life-prolonging measures. Vanitas Machine is comprised of a candle placed in the centre of glass which protects it from environmental factors and controls it’s lifespan by regulating the oxygen supply.

Sensible Data – A machine that playfully interprets and leaks your personal data

Created by Martin Hertig at ECAL, Sensible Data is a playful installation consisting of three machines that collect user’s personal data, evaluates mood, age, gender and beauty, to create a ‘passport’ that user can take away but which also randomly sent (without user’s knowledge) to another participant.

MASSES – Searching for a perfect equilibrium state

Created by Quadrature and first shown at this years’ Ars Electronica festival in Linz, MASSES installation includes two stones lying on top of a balanced steel plate and a machine with aim to create a perfect equilibrium state by moving the stones to the appropriate positions.
