All About Cardboard – Workshop by Niklas Roy + Cardboard Plotter

Last week Niklas Roy proposed students at the School of Art and Design Offenbach build computers out of cardboard. Not really knowing at all where this will lead to, results included an information distribution knot, a mechanical NAND gate, a Speedway PRO 1000 racer game and his own digital cardboard plotter.

Parhelia by Paul Prudence is a real-time A-V performance piece where sample based mechanical sounds are used orchestrate a family of concentric forms in space. The vvvv scenes suggest the workings of a imaginary machine where its component parts, or ‘gears’ interact with one an another triggering corresponding sounds.

Just Landed [Processing]

Just Landed visualises particular tweets containing the phrases ‘just landed in…’ or ‘just arrived in…’. in the form of a 3D geographical map of the world. As phrases are mentioned, the streams of communication are represented.

Earlier this year, we have been thinking about “curated workshops”, an opportunity to bring people together to work for a very short period and share their creations. These would include setting up a team, inviting a few high-profile individuals and opening up submissions for participation.
