DINNER AT THE AUTOMAT – 23rd IA Current Exhibition

InterAccess is pleased to present the 23rd Annual IA Current Exhibition, DINNER AT THE AUTOMAT. Curated by Casper Sutton-Fosman and featuring the work of artists Lena Chen, Jenson Leonard, Alfred Muszynski, Sam Pelletier, and Shay Salehi, DINNER AT THE AUTOMAT explores the promises and failures of automation and artificial intelligence. Material Sequencer – Physical materiality of sound

‘Material Sequencer’ is an 8-step electromechanical sequencer, designed to emphasise the physical materiality of sound and sound production. The simple usb-powered sound-sculpture takes the sequencing process outside the black box and into the acoustic realm, flaunting its materiality and physicality.

Music of the Spheres – A Conversation with Dan Tapper

Dan Tapper is a British artist based in Toronto that combines his interest in code and celestial form and his recent research project “Turbulent Forms” visualizes and sonifies various cosmic phenomena. To mark the recent exhibition of this work (and related collaborations with several composers) we present this extended conversation with the artist about cosmology and data aesthetics.

Linger – Device to create and broadcast a virtual crowd

Created by Jasper van Loenen, Linger is a small, portable device that allows you to create and blend into a virtual crowd by storing the specific WiFi signals from everyone that comes near you, and rebroadcasting their signals infinitely when they leave, making it seem as if they are still there.

‘Breeze’ is a kinetic sculpture that investigates natural and delicate movement using the materiality of papers and a digital system. It consists of 96 note papers in a 6×16 matrix and creates sequential and random movement patterns in the matrix using wind from computer cooling fans.

Created by Luiz Zanotello, Habitat of Recognition explores the material dimensions of digital technologies by examining the intra-active tensions between the distinction and convergence of matter.

Created by Felix Ros, ‘Scribble’ is a haptic interface designed for autonomous cars that lets the driver draw their way through traffic. They draw a path and the car will follow, not letting them drive but pilot the car, helping the car when in need. Scribble is powered by an Arduino DUE that is controlled over a serial connection by a GUI made in openFrameworks.

This summer, visitors to Sao Paulo’s Itau Cultural Gallery find themselves face-to-face with a host of artificial life forms. Amongst them is a new version of artist Ruairi Glynn’s interactive installation ‘Fearful Symmetry’, which was first shown at the Tate Modern, London, in 2012.

“Reflective Sculptures: A Critique of Binary Beliefs” is a pair of kinetic sculptures by the Ontario-based artists St Marie φ Walker. Produced as part of their MFA show, the motorized devices sit halfway between poems and machines.

Ryoichi Kurokawa sets out a new phase of his use of space with light and sound, and how different mediums can be merged in space and time as single unit. node 5:5 fills the ACC in Gwangju, South Korea with mesmerising abstract information and imagery, intoxicating the viewer in an unforgettable visual, auditory and spatial experience.

Powered by a dizzying array of parametric meta-controls, VIDEOGAMO’s ‘party console’ DOBOTONE invites (up to) four players to cycle through a strange and fiercely competitive selection of lo-fi videogames.
